Alert me when someone posts in this thread:

Bought my '97 9000 CSE in 2011 for $1500 through a Saabnet ad. It's a high-mileage car with rust around the edges (driver-side front fender is the worst) but is a nice runner.

Of course I've had to do repairs on it over the years, the most major one being replacement of the automatic transmission last summer when the original finally gave up at about 330,000 miles. Did the work myself using a $175 junkyard trans and a crazy amount of wrenching. I think I've pretty much gotten my money out of this vehicle but am hoping with the "new" trans I can keep it going a while longer. :) When the time comes the next one will likely be a 9-5.

The point is though that electric cars are quite expensive. If one is looking to save money on motoring then electrics have a ways to go yet. I have no doubt they will get there some day. Possibly not in my lifetime.

(Photo of my $1500 beater below. That's it's good side though. The front fender on the other side is badly rusted, patched up with POR-15 and metal tape.)
