We probably all drive much the same way but we have different likes and dislikes, are more or less sensitive to "whatever."
I always found Michelins to be kinda numb. They are good tires but they have zero "feel" to me. The Serenities are definitely a little firmer, but just drive better. To me. But as they say, YMMV! I don't care much about tests because they really just pick nits an details that don't much matter day to day.
I went to the Serenties from Michelins on the 9-5 and from Bridgestone RE960AS on my 9K because it has the Aero suspension, I was doing a lot of driving, and our roads suck. Plus I wanted tires that lasted longer. The Serenities don't handle as well as the 960AS, but the ride is better and for my needs now they are fine. I'm not doing tracks days any more so a milder" tire does the job.
Last summer I put General Altimax (somethings) on daughter's 9-3SE. They seem fine, and she doesn't drive hard. And they were cheap, so since it was her dime they seem to do the job.
Tire make a huge difference in a car, but it also depends on what matters to the driver. My wife and kids don't care.
