Thanks for all the opinions. Yes, I used tirerack.com and for quite some years. The had a direct delivery tire workshop in a neighboring town, just a few miles away, City Tire. Closed last year... Not sure what to make of their test scores and consumer surveys — how much "sponsorship" and statistical sampling error is there. Anyway, for years I used to buy tires from them by sorting by the highest score and the getting whatever I could afford. Seemed to work, until those summer Conti's. But of course they test the new tires, not after a year or so of use. Conti's became so noisy at 30+ mph, that I made an appointment with my trusty, decades old Dean Hill Saab mechanic to check for any issues with bearings, transmission (XWD, horrors!). Tires was a diagnosis (and a relief).
That's why one would want some input from fellow Saab users, who used the tires not for just a test.
tirerack.com comparison is limited to 4 models at a time. For what it's worth, linked (right-click, open in new tab) is a screenshot comparing BFGoodrich and Michelins. I also checked all the other tires mentioned in this thread, which were available at the website. Michelin Premier a/s weren't mentioned here, but they pop up as a first offer for "new" models, as soon I selected 9^3 sedan 2011 (BTW, a different set of tires poped up when I did the same from home computer!)
My initial question was about dedicated summer tires, since we switch to good winter tires for the better part of the year. I used to call all-seasnon tires, "no season" tires. Perhaps it's not that simple anymore?
