Ship it? surely you jest! With the '99 9-3 at 188K, it's not worth shipping a car that's only worth about $1200 on a good day.
That daughter and her husband shipped a container last year. He has a Toyota Hilux down there and they'll buy a right hand drive car. Plus, after nine years she's done with Saabs. She is not good with cars that need much attention. (However, the PO of that car --a former neighbor-- immigrated to NZ and bought a right hand drive 2001 9-3)
And to Bill Homer....
that car is the '99, which is actually still semi-decent. I may wind up driving it if I decide to dump the old 9K. Still undecided and have had no time to really investigate it. The HG leak has not gotten worse, even with a few hot day drives, but it's still just a matter of time.
The one that's a goner is the '00 9-3 SE with 265K and in dire need of a water pump. Has been run with minimal coolant so I fear the engine's internals may not be happy. Plus, that daughter lives in fear of what it will need next and she really needs reliable wheels. It's 70 miles away and I see it rarely, with little time to work on it, so it's hard to keep it running well. And I don't trust the Saab tech she takes it to. So she's looking at Hondas and discovering just how much better Saab seats are. Haha!
I'm trying to thin the herd so I have fewer cars to think about. The '99 9-3 just sits these days and we don't need 3 cars, unless one is something fun like a 'vert, but even then I think I'd get a used Miata.
