I've been eyeing the Race Ramps RR-XT-2 (2 piece) for my small home garage, and although there's been lots of postings here and elsewhere regarding the mandatory use of safety backups when using jack stands, not so much when using ramps. Aside from double-chocking the off-ramp wheels, my thoughts are to employ:
- jack stands under the side rails at the designated lift points (with the ramp extenders removed, this is possible), or under the subframe
- cross-stacked and strapped 6" x 6" wooden posts underneath the car to provide a crush-proof safety zone
The per-ramp rating of 1500 lbs. should be sufficient for supporting not only my 9-5, but my wife's Audi Q5 (heavier weight distributed on rear axles: 2,976 lbs.)
Not interested in cheaper ramp alternatives or fabricating my own ramps or wooden wheel stands. But I would appreciate your thoughts and feedback.
