Further deterioration in service from parts stores Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 12 Aug 2018 05:09:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yesterday I was doing an oil change on my 9-5, opened my parts cabinet for the filter and discovered I did not have one. Rats. The closest parts store is an O'Reilly's so that is where I headed for an over-sized filter.
Now I remember the Purolator filter numbers and the Mobil-1 filter number but none of the others. The Mobil-1 filter is typically so pricey that I only buy this one as part of a deeply discounted oil/filter package. Imagine my surprise to see that O'Reilly's no longer has ANY filter catalog - not paper, not electronic!
They do have a small sign telling buyers use take a photograph of one of those bizarre symbols with the customer's smart phone (which requires an app my phone doe not have loaded), or to browse the O'Reilly's web site with their own smart phone to learn the filter number.
Personally, I find all parts stores' web sites impossible to use on a smart phone, and barely useable with a large screen monitor and the home PC. Sites are loaded with too much junk and ads and over-sized useless banners!
So I asked the Store Manager if they had a catalog, he said "No". So I asked how to learn the filter number I needed other than going to another store down the street? He asked if I remembered the number of the filter on the car now? I reminded him that if I did remember the filter number then I would not need a catalog! (Maybe not my finest moment).
He finally relented and looked it up the filter I required on his Point Of Sale computer. WIX51516 to avoid the in-house brands of unknown lineage. I bought two.
