Flash drives and external hard drives are popular choices. Flash drives are commonly available in 256GB size last time I checked, probably larger by now. (Largest I currently use is 128GB.) USB hard drives hold more and usually have faster write speeds but are less portable, especially the larger ones that require external power. Also they will not tolerate rough handling like being dropped. I've kept diagnostic and utility flash drives in my back pocket for years and they're fine. They've even survived being put through the washing machine, though that's not something I'd recommend. :)
More and more people are turning to the so-called "cloud" (which is just marketing-droid speak for using someone else's server, something that's been around for decades), but you lose control of your data that way in exchange for the convenience. Another option is to run your own personal "cloud" either from your home network or on a rented virtual server.
Middle ground might be to keep local copies of your data and use a "cloud" backup service like Backblaze that encrypts your data before transmitting it, so you can get it back if your local media is lost, stolen, or fails.
About the only thing I make CDs for is for any more is to use in the car since my 9000 still has its factory audio.
