A follow-up to my posting from this past February. I received an email yesterday from the Director of Curations at Wade House Historical Village in Wisconsin, agreeing in concept to having me work with one of their Sawyers/Millwrights to learn how to operate their Muley Style Sawmill. This will be unofficial training which I can use to hopefully operate my ancestor's Muley Style Sawmill which is on display at The Henry Ford (aka Greenfield Village) near Detroit in my retirement, planned to start in 2020.
A big thank-you to Norval99 for providing the info regarding this Mill!
And it appears this Historical Village is located close to Road America, so I may be able to time my training to coincide with that of a vintage sports car race at Road America this upcoming season.
If the link below works, you will be able to view digital copies of photographs taken at the time of the Sawmill's purchase by Greenfield Village in the mid 1930's.
The Sawmill was powered by a built-in-place fire tube boiler providing steam to a small single piston steam engine. The boiler was fueled with wood scraps from the mill operation. The mill in its current condition still has the steam engine but the large fire tube boiler has been replaced.
