I understand what you're saying, but for me if I don't have to be in an office at a desk, I'd like to pursue that option. If spending transit time working means skipping the office entirely or handling a problem before it becomes an emergency I'd like to do that.
At the personal level, if having mobile internet means not having to plan and taking the day as it comes, I'd like to do that too. I frequently travel without planning ahead of time - using Google Maps to explore, or Hotel Tonight to stop whenever I get tired, or Wyndow to find something fun to do when I'm in a new place, count me in.
Sometimes I need a desk, and sometimes I need a plan, but knowing I can solve problems, get answers, and find things when the need arises rather than anticipate everything is freeing. I didn't get into technology so I could work the way my dad worked. I got into technology to find new ways to do things. I've done the "tied to the desk thing" - I'd rather avoid it going forwards if I can!
