Well, this was my understanding, that at some point (the NG 9-3 being
the most likely) Saab would have to use a "universal" 4 banger that
GM is going to use in Opels, smaller US cars etc. as it "rationalizes"
all those myriad engines in its stable. Similar thing was supposed to
happen for 6-8 cylinder engines as well. Of course, Saab would be able
to "tweak" the engine for better Saabness, but I'm still a bit leery.
If true, I'll have to decide whether to buy a 9-3 this year with the
older chassis and design in order to keep the "true" Saab engine.
Just don't tell me that the "real" Saab engine was a Triumph derivative:-)
