Richard: I know the basic theory is that oxygenated fuels are supposed to
increase performance. That certainly is not achieved with MTBE. When you
travel outside DFW, their is no guarantee the gas you buy isn't re-
reformulated. When Exxon or Texaco runs out of gas at one terminal, they
just ship it from another. I know in Austin, they get reformulated gas
for mid-grade & permium & they aren't even in a non-compliance zone. I fill
up in Waco alot & I think their gas is reformulated half the time.
The EPA's own attorneys have admitted in court that MTBE does not lower
emissions or promote complete combustion. The City of Ft. Worth tested
reformulated gas years ago in their vehicles & stated that it burns dirtier
than regular gas. The resident expert on this subject in Dallas is Ed
Wallace of KLIF radio. He has a Saturday morning radio program called
"Wheels" & has been researching the reformulated gas situation for years.
He also predicted years ago that MTBE would be found in the water all
across America. It is now in Lake Lewisville & Towakani. California & Maine
have thousands of water wells that are ruined. Santa Monica is spending 3
million dollars a month to pipe in water from the mountains because of bad
wells. We are so slow to wake up in this country sometimes it is pathetic!
