I spend a lot of time in the salvage yard getting parts for my
9KT. Not that it needs a lot of maintenance, I just like going
there and finding upgrade parts (Aero seats, engines, transaxles,
etc.) for my Saabrina. Anyway, in order to get to the Saab section
I often walk by the Acura/Honda section. It's not uncommon to see
these cars literally split into two pieces because of what looks
like missed or bad welds on structural/frame pieces. The built-in
safety design of Saabs are corroborated by the insurance statistics.
And for me, a walk thru the salvage yards, is visual proof of my
good decision to buy Saab, regardless of resale considerations.
I think most Saab owners don't consider resale all that much because
they tend to keep the vehicles much longer. Besides, I've heard stories
of how Honda treats their assemby line workers - and regardless of what
the company line is concerning safety, the underlying motive is to get
things done as fast and as cheap as possible.
