is that the SUV will largely be a rebadged GM vehicle in the GM tradition of the near twin (e.g., Chevy vs. Pontiac offering of the same vehicle). It may have reworked sheet metal (probably limited to front and rear), a different engine (although that too will probably be GM based and not from the current SAAB offerings) and maybe they will even do something funky with the key but it will be structurally the same vehicle and share the same basic engineering.
The 9-5 vs. Opel Vectra comparison just doesn't hold up. For one thing you can't buy an Opel in the U.S. Moreover, the 9-5 is NOT an Opel Vectra. It uses the basic Opel Vectra platform but the car is an all fresh SAAB engineered design using that existing platform. It is not a rebadged upscale version of an existing vehicle.
If you expect something significantly different other than price and superficial luxury features I think you will be disappointed. The SAAB may prove to be a better variant but it will still be the same basic GM SUV. Might as well save some money and buy from one of the GM divisions that will offer the vehicle.
