they probably have to divorce and then marry every nut, bolt, pin, pad, and rotor to the car's computers. And that can only be done at a Bimmer dealer.
I'm so used to buying my own parts and DIYing that I'm always stunned when I hear what people actually pay for stuff. OTOH, my indy is up to about $85 an hour (last time I checked) and the dealers around here cracked the $100/hour line years ago. The cheap ones are about $110 now.
So when you figure they'll hit you for 5-6 hours of labor for a 4 corner brake job, and that OEM rotors with dealer pricing of about $150/rotor, plus pads and fluid, it can get to $1300-1500 pretty easily.
