Looks like he will be keeping the GrandAm Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 28 Feb 2016 17:53:39 In Reply to: Best option for a 2-year lease?, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 28 Feb 2016 05:58:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
His goal is to graduate Med School with no debt and a new car will not allow that to happen. So after discussing the Pros and Cons I placed an order for plugs, wires, coils, idler pulley, belt, and tensioner.
We will keep sucking out the PS reservoir and re-filling with fresh fluid containing seal additives until the removed liquid is no longer the color of coal tar. I now suspect the idler pulley as being the culprit of the recent noise and Summit Racing should have the new one here tomorrow or Tuesday. Plugs and wires are approaching 100K miles of age and the coils may be original and nearly 200K miles old.
A new alternator might be a good idea too. Tranny fluid is likely due too as is antifreeze. I have been trying to keep this car going for him but I don't get many opportunities to wrench on it, usually only when something is acting up, with no time to delve deeply into the issue.
