We had both 2013 Encore and 2012 Forester. The Forester was slightly bigger with taller greenhouse compared to Encore, but otherwise was a tin-box that cracked windshields, blew fuses, noisy on the highway, and cleared my stock of synthetic oil reserve. Not my feelings but also of my fiancé at the time. The Encore had a smaller footprint so it was very nimble and with a $300 Trifecta tune would run with Scion tC, Chevy Silverado V8, and past a unsuspecting Lexus IS 250 AWD 2.5l V6. It would eek out almost 40 mpg while at the speed limit on the highway. Or 95-110 mph would see just under 30 mpg for a 6 hour trek.
We hauled two full sized dogs, luggage for a week, and Christmas presents for 6 hour drive one time in the Encorr. It had active noise cancelation but crack the window and the thrum of the iron block reminded me of Saab's. It has a very refined cabin at this price and sells quite well.
