I don't know about the four cylinders but on the H6 the catalytic converters sit directly below the CVs so they get really hot and it thins the grease. If the clamps on the gators are the least bit loose it weeps out. The really perverse thing about it is that the oil drips onto the cats and burns up. So you don't notice what's going on until the CVs run out of grease. I was getting a hot oil smell for months and could never find a leak. I finally figured it out and had new clamps installed.
