Hello,
Just like an older Saab previous maintenance is key. I work on these cars all day and try to stress to everyone the importance of regular oil changes. The factory intervals are just too long.
The BMW's seem to have gotten a little better than the 2006 to 2012 or so. But lack of oil changed can lead to vanos problems which sometimes can only be repaired by replacing the head. As well as a fair number of turbo failures. The x-drive transfer case can also be a problem if not maintained. The fluid needs changed every 60k miles. According to BMW techs I know from about 2013 or so you can not get of the runflat tires because it will also damage the transfer case.
The Audi's with the 4 cylinder can end up eating oil due to clogged oil control rings and stretched chains if the oil is not changed frequently enough. The supercharged v6 seems to always need chains and they are on the flywheel side so engine removal is mandatory for their replacement.
The Volvo's I can't report much on I work on a fair number but they all seem to be people that are hanging on to theirs so not much to report on anything newer than 2010.
As far as the Alfa's I know 2 people with Giulia's and they have been dependable but have had frequent dealership visits for programming updates and some annoying squeaks and rattles. Good Luck, Bernie
