Although not really a fan of crossovers myself, I would not put too much weight on ONE person's experience with ONE particular crossover as being representative of the overall state of the crossover segment.
30 years ago, I don't think a Chevy Impala or Malibu would've been considered a "cool" vehicle for a 30-something but that didn't mean that there weren't cool sedans out there or that the popularity of sedans was declining.
