I have a 2007 (last year of P2 chassis). In your price range you should be able to get the very nicest low mile 2007 in the world. The '07s do much better for mileage, the '08s are the first year of a new model and that would make me cautious.

If you check the linked Volvo forum there will be lots of info.

I replaced my '01 9-5 with the '07 Volvo. The volvo is slower and less fun to drive and uses about 10% more gas, but is a much heavier-feeling and solidly built car, with rubbery handling. No repairs to report yet. Great in the winter with the Haldex AWD. Lots of cargo space (I hauled a full size washing machine in the crate).
