Upgraded software is the only way for a T7 car... Posted by Karl [Email] (#161) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Karl) on Mon, 13 Nov 2000 02:22:54 In Reply to: Dump valve(long), StanL, Sun, 12 Nov 2000 14:16:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Stan,
First of all, you have to understand the basics of a T7 car. You can read my post http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/index.html?bID=319 for further info on this subject.
Basically a T7 software does NOT have a built-in boost curve that it strives to achieve, but rather a pre-set torque curve. What this means is that when you add intake and exhaust mods you facilitate the breathing of the engine, thus allowing the car to lower it's boost levels to achieve the same torque as it "wants to".
You should ,however, improve spool-up with the bigger downpipe and K&N, and this is what you feel is improved "power". Engine power will be basically the same as standard, perhaps with torque coming at slightly lower rpm's.
What you need is a reprogrammed ECU (sometimes referred to as a "chip") to take advantage of the nice "breathing" mods that you have done.
Also, bear in mind that 1) the auto gearbox isn't the strongest one around... and 2) the rods and pistons in you engine aren't world class either. If you're looking for serious power, say above 230-240, you should probably consider upgrading the internals to "Aero-spec". That said, there are tuners, in Sweden and elsewhere, that supply tuning kits up to 270 hp for your engine with the manual gearbox.
For suitable software check out: http://www.abbottracing.com, http://www.hirsch-performance.ch, http://www.bsrab.se (Swedish, but you should be able to browse your way around...), http://www.speedparts.o.se (Sw.), http://www.chipcenter.cc (Sw.).
Good luck!
