I completely agree.
Saab has actually been using the stock bypass mounted in both directions you mention above, so I think its safe to say that both may work ok. To me, it feels more natural to have pressure work linear to the piston axis, seems like the "right" thing to do.
If I had a dumpvale on a T5 car, I would probably not set it to be tight on idle. This will/should force us to use a spring force stronger than needed. The stock bypassvalve has a spring force equivalent of about 0,4bar and I see no reasons to set a dumpvalve to anything different (at least not on a car without an AMM). No, wont be tight on idle, use an airfilter!
