Sorry, forgot to mention the first time there's no cable and no adjustment. The hose shouldn't make a big difference to feel, I replaced mine with a braided one, which would, if anything, have made it heavier. I'd say the pedal pivot bushings, as dim33 mentioned, are worth checking, though I've never noticed anything amiss with mine.
