Whenever the throttle valve slams shut there's a rich condition temporarily that causes some very rich exhaust fumes. The mechanical dashpots in the older saabs closed the throttle slowly so you don't get that rich condition. Your newer car has the throttle controlled by the computer, so what you do with the gas pedal doesn't equal what the throttle plate is doing. I'll bet they put the dashpot function in the software. WHy wouldn't they since they do have to meet environmental regs. I'm no expert so it's just speculation.
