Hit my first dear in my wife's Audi A4 Avant just about a year ago. She's as much a fanatic about the car as I am about Saabs (5th one, first Audi). We were rather lucky: I cruising home at about 65 in the passing lane right at the blind spot behind a Ford Explorer. I could clearly see the deer make a run for it behind the Ford, right toward me. I swerved left (there was a turning lane there it so happens) to avoid hitting dead on (sorry pun not intended). It smacked the rear passenger door. Car was about two months old, and we had special ordered the car, waiting for it for 6 months (not too many wagons with a 5-spd manual...).
It does break your heart when it happens, but at least you walked away, as I did. The car is repairable (usually); you certainly wouldn't have been so lucky in any other lesser car.
