Hey Steve...
Well, i installed the SPG9 AID unit and set the timing to 20 degrees BTDC last week, but found the off boost performance to be worse than when i had the stop pin pushed back and timing at 16BTDC... very strange! On boost the car performs in a slight jerky fashion but with big boost still occuring, almost like you can feel the timing being pulled back as the psi increases, but not in a smooth way... boost pressure also spiked a deal higher than when with 16BTDC and stock Vac advance! Base boost is set at 6.5psi. I thought with new AID unit I would get much better off boost performance and as boost comes on it would pull harder??
Looking at my a/f gauge too, it seems to be running a little richer now too under boost for some reason - maybe 0.9V as opposed to 0.8V... dont think the car is pinging as this rich condition suggests car is getting enough fuel under big boost!
On the weekend, i decided to check out the settings on the POTS (Stage 2 APC from SPG9)... which had been tweaked by my performance guy when on the dyno... both F and P had been turned all the way in... whats the original settings for these as supplied by SPG9??? anyone know? I turned back the F and P pots both a quarter turn each (leaving K). Boost response now seems a little better and a little less jerky... but still not correct! Doesnt overshoot as much, so Pots must do something! getting max of 20psi... no taper etc. and can hold it there OK. Its just the boost rise getting to this figure!
I also turned back the RRFPR a quarter turn too (original was set at 2.5bar at idle)... has helped too, but still running as rich. I have AMM set at 420ohms resistance.
Its got me buggered... any thoughts?
cheers from down under
