Case In Point...

So this morning I went outside to go to work around 6am and jumped in the '74 Sonett. Drove it to work yesterday, no problems or issues. Crank it over and it doesn't quite catch. Turn the key again and...nothing. No crank.

Okay, no time to fool with it- that's why I have 4 VSaabs. Move over to the '68 96 and off I go to work. Work, work, work all day. Get back in the 96, start it, drop it into reverse, back out of the parking space, put it in 1st and the horn blows. Oh yes. Beep, beep, beep. Three times. Very interesting. Three people turn and give me a wave. One for each beep. Drive away, shift into 2nd and get two more beeps. Beep, beep. More people wave- I think it was more than two this time, so my theory of horn beeps to waving people is shot.

Got home and after dinner I checked on the Sonett. I tried it again and nothing. Popped the rear hatch, removed the trunk floor and grabbed ahold of each battery terminal Sure enough the hot one... was... well.. HOT. There's the problem. Removed both terminals, cleaned them and reinstalled- VROOOM.

The horn on the 96 can wait for a later day. Maybe I can establish an algorithm of beeps to people...

Now I don't MIND this stuff. It's how it goes with 40 year old cars. Tomorrow or next week or next month the clutch pedal will go to the floor and it will be time to rebuild the clutch slave. Or one headlight will be out and it will be fuse-rolling time.
