Bob you have the same idea. After more searching and pricing, I ended up spending $70 to buy 3 of those Ford mufflers plus 4 feet of 1 7/8 exhaust piping. I welded 2 mufflers together and tested the sonett with these (no resonators) and it was still louder than I cared for. I added the 3rd muffler up in that rear wheelwell which quieted the car down so I can now listen to the radio comfortably at 65mph.
The outside diameter of these mufflers is 3 1/4 inches so they easily fit under the body of the car without causing ground clearance issues. I'm very impressed with it and even though that rough throaty sound is gone, my ears will thank me.
