There's nothing very interesting inside, if that's what you mean: just some dirty charcoal granules and an oily filter element. It's really a simple gizmo: just a can to hold the charcoal that absorbs vapors from the fuel tank vent while the car is parked.
If you mean, how much trouble am I in if I broke it, the answer is not much. You probably can just glue it back together, or maybe substitute something from another car. The car will still run OK without it, too, although you'll want to plug up the suction hose port on the air cleaner (so you aren't drawing unfiltered air into the carb) and relocate the vent hose from the gas tank (so you're not venting flammable vapors into the engine compartment.) And of course without the canister, you're letting unburned hydrocarbons (pollutants) escape into the environment, so it's really better to have the canister -- especially since it doesn't harm engine performance in any way, and there's practically nothing that can go wrong with it.
