Have you adjusted the valve clearances?
easiest way to adjust them is just take off the distributor cap, tick the engine over with the starter so that the rotor is pointing to the valves you want to adjust. Easy as pie. Adjust all the valves to 12 thousanths. it's just fine.
hey, even simpler is just that all the valves should have a little play, like I say, when the rotor is pointing to that cylinder, you should be able to grab the rocker and rock it up and down 'a little'. More specifically, set 'em all to .012 .
I'm just throwing my 2 cents in, these V4's are so bulletproof in my experience. just adjust the valves and carb, and I've revived two. You want to fix all possible vacuum leaks, remove superfulous crap from the carb too. :)
