thanks to jeff again for the door fix..it is something i can do. but this problem is beyond me. i only know basic things about engines to start off so if what im explaining here sounds simple im sorry....i dont like being a novice!!! 72 sonnett
i was stranded 2 times today. ill try to explain best i can what it was doing. while driving down the road at about 50 or so the speedo said. the engine stalled on me.at first it didnt completely shut off i gave it gas nothing happened i thought it came out of gear but if that was it then it would have still revved ..i couldnt hear it rev and the tach didnt move..i made it to a parking lot. i couldnt get it fired back up so i had to leave it there. about an hour later after making it home and getting my brother we went back to see if we could get it going. turned the key starter sounded good it was cranking but not firing so i choked it just to see if it would help and it fired up.... sputtered a few minutes but it started up and i made it back home. popped the hood checked carb for gas leaking or coming out of it thought maybe it was flooded or something?? the breather from the choke was stuck down so i thought at first maybe the choke had been stuck all along....so we played with it a little. we got it working right so i had to test it out. got no further than a halfmile from the house and it died on me again. no warning this time just died. checked choke again it was workin and the breather was open. let it sit for about 30 mins and tried to crank it up...had to work the choke again to get it fired up...it got going enuf to make it back home but on the way it was really actin strange....it would start to die (just trying anything here) so ipush clutch in give it gas and it would start back up. it would run a few seconds in gear then die again..i repeated pushin clutch in and refirin it till i got home. had to be ruff on the gears..it was like a rolling start over and over again but i had to do it to make it home. well after a few minutes i cranked her back up and she idled fine didnt sputter or anything..revved up nicely but i wasnt about to drive it anywhere else.
i have no clue...im thinkin its in the fuel system somewhere but i really dontknow...sorry if my explanation is poor but if any of you have experienced this or something similar please email me or reply here. im going nuts over this one.
