Glad you found it without too much trouble, BUT -- just remember that the gunk in the filter didn't just grow there, and unless you buy all your gas in Central America (or right after the big truck comes and fills the tank at the gas station) it probably wasn't just dirty gas.
The gunk you found in the filter probably came from a bigger reservoir of gunk in the tank/lines/etc. And while you can gradually remove all that gunk a little at a time by replacing fuel filters about a zillion times until you've sucked it all out that way, it is a LOT less tedious to pull out the tank, get it cleaned, and flush out the lines. While the tank is out you also can have it checked to see if it's gotten rusty enough to have any pinhole leaks in it -- if so, there's some kind of treatment that gas tank shops can do that involves swishing around acid inside to get out all the goobers, then putting in some kind of stuff that seals it up from the inside.
This will save you the bother of having to do the fuel-filter-replacement trick over and over and over at inconvenient places (I had to swap filters on the Lake Ponchartrain Bridge outside New Orleans once, and this was not fun...)
