I've got a warm start problem on my '69 Sonett with the 34ICH. The carb is new and I checked the settings with Jack Ashcrafts book on the 34ICH. The carb settings are fine, I replaced the PCV, installed a pertronix ignitor, and new distributor (with vac. advance), and it still does it.
Cold starts are fine. I called Ashcraft and asked him about it. After describing my system, he suggested it is the electronic fuel pump I have mounted in the engine bay (near the exhaust). He said moving it to the swiss cheese panel behind the seats will likely help.
Another source claims it is the proximity of the carb bowl to the thermostat housing. When driving, there is enough air flow to keep the carb bowl cool (plus the fuel is continously circulating). When the car stops the heat from the t-stat housing heats up the bowl. On the 343ICH there is only about 1/8" between the carb bowl and t-stat housing, so the heat transfer is very direct. I've been told that Weber makes a thicker intemediary plate that will give a bit more room between the carb and housing.
I plan on moving the fuel pump first to see if that fixes the prob, if not I'll hunt down this intemediary plate.
