Haven't tried this myself, but it's supposed to make it easier to get free of the driveshafts if (after removing the rubber boots from the inner drivers) you unbolt the lower balljoint and swing the whole upright outward a bit from the bottom. Supposedly this pulls out the inner driver enough to make it easy to remove. The alternative involves hoisting the engine, horsing it one way as far as it will go, sliding the inner driver out of the cup, then shoving the engine the other way, etc. Only problem with that is that while shoving that big heavy engine around, it's relatively easy to knock the bearing caps off the inner driver, releasing zillions of needle bearings to frolic on your garage floor... hence the suggestion of unbolting the balljoint instead. Incidentally, don't try unbolting the upper balljoint, because it's got the force of the road spring bearing on it and Really Bad Things will happen (e.g. loss of body parts.)
But again, all this lore is mere theory with me. Can anyone confirm or deny? I may want to pull my own engine (well, my Sonett's own engine) this spring and would like to do it the easiest way possible...
