1981 Saab 900 Turbo Hatchback

A redesigned engine with a smaller and more responsive turbo unit; new interior; an automatic transmission option in addition to the standard 5-speed manual transmission are just some of the new features in the 1981 Swedish Saab Turbo three-door hatchback. With its distinctive rear end spoiler -- for 1981 complemented with a larger front end air dam -- the Saab Turbo has become somewhat of a status car in many parts of the United States. The original Saab Turbo, first introduced in 1978, was one of the vefl first turbccarged cars ft series production anywhere, and it has since set impressive records, both in sales and on the nation's race track, where in 1979 it captured the Sports Car Club of America national championship in the Showroom Stock A Class. Since Saab first launched its Turbo, a number of car manufacturers, both in the U.S. and abroad, have introduced turbocharged models. The 1981 Saab Turbo, along with the rest of the 1981 line of Saab cars, will go on sale November 15.
