9-3 Summary

MODEL YEAR 2000 UPDATES: 9-3

NORCROSS, Ga. - The Saab 9-3 range for 2000 features the 9-3 Coupe, 9-3 5-door and 9-3 Convertible. All Saab 9-3 models are powered exclusively by turbocharged engines and offer a combination of excellent performance, an outstanding level of safety and superb driver control. For 2000, Saab offers a number of updates across the entire 9-3 model line.

9-3 Models Feature Performance Upgrades
All Saab 9-3 SE models (5-door and Convertible) now feature the 2.0-liter high output turbo engine as standard equipment. For 2000, this engine's output is increased to 205 horsepower and is available with either the automatic or manual transmission. Like all Saab engines, peak torque is sustained across a broad range - this engine produces 209 lb.-ft. of torque from 2,200 to 4,800 rpm with a manual transmission and 184 lb.-ft. from 1,900 all the way up to 5,700 rpm with the automatic. This broad range of peak torque provides the 9-3 SE with maximum power on demand through nearly the entire driving range.

Entry level 9-3 models will continue to feature Saab's 185 horsepower 2.0-liter engine. Saab engineers have increased this engine's torque when equipped with an automatic transmission to 184 lb.-ft. (up from 169 lb.-ft.) from 1,900 rpm to 5,000 rpm. In addition, this engine's turbocharger has been redesigned for improved launch performance.

For 2000, All Saab engines utilize Saab's Trionic 7 (T7) engine management system. T7 monitors and controls the direct ignition, fuel injection, turbo boost pressure and throttle setting to enhance performance and virtually eliminate turbo lag.

Sport Enhancements for SE Models
The Saab design team complements the 9-3 SE's greater performance abilities with sporty updates including a front chin spoiler, flared rocker panels, a new rear valance, body colored mirrors, polished chrome sport exhaust tip and a sports steering wheel. In addition, the 9-3 SE Convertible integrates a rear bridge spoiler. The SE 5-Door also incorporates a specially tuned sport suspension for more responsive handling.

New Wheels on Entry Level Models
Saab's entry level 9-3 models receive newly designed 15-inch light alloy wheels - a five-spoke design is standard on all Coupes, while ten-spoke wheels are featured on all 5-Door and Convertible models.

Additional Interior Enhancements
For enhanced safety, child seat top tether anchors are now provided in all three rear seating positions (convertible models provide two positions). In addition, all models receive a passenger side console-mounted storage pocket for added interior carrying space.

For convenience, Saab 9-3 customers have the choice of either AM/FM with a cassette player or AM/FM with a CD player at no additional cost.
