Saab 9-5 rated as 'safest car' in Swedish road accident study
The Saab 9-5 has been rated as the safest car on the road by the leading Swedish insurance company, Folksam, following publication of a study of real-life road accidents involving more than 100 cars.
The Folksam report, 'How safe is Your Car?', is updated every two years and its findings are based an assessment of personal injuries suffered in real-life accidents on Swedish roads. The statistics are used to produce an injury risk measurement for each individual car model.
The Saab 9-5 is the only car to achieve an injury risk rating 'at least 40 per cent better than average' and was found to be the safest car overall, as well as best in the large car category. The Saab 900/9-3 also performed extremely well, achieving the top injury risk rating of 'at least 30 per cent better than average' in the medium-sized category.
The findings of the report verify the outstanding safety attributes of the Saab 9-5, which was also the first car to be awarded a four star rating in EuroNCAP crash tests.
Car safety development at Saab Automobile is based on analyzing the results of more than 6,000 real-life accidents involving Saab cars and spokesman Christer Nilsson said the Folksam report verified the value of this work. "These results prove the benefit of our long-term work in creating a safe car for real-life conditions," he said.
