New Salem Garage, Inc., D/B/A New Salem Saab turns 60 years old, 46 of them as the areas premier Saab Dealer!

Sixty years ago the Carl Family started selling and servicing automobiles in a small Texaco Mar-Fax shop at the base of the Helderbergs in the Hamlet of New Salem.

Albany b January 2007: Darryl F. Carl, 3rd generation owner of New Salem Garage, Inc D/B/A New Salem Saab located at 2041 Central Ave, Albany is proud to announce their families sixtieth year selling and servicing the Capital Districts automotive needs. Dewitt Carl, Darrylbs grandfather started the business in 1947. He operated a Texaco Mar-Fax station which serviced all makes and models at the time in addition to a full service gasoline station. Ultimately growing into used automotive sales of such long forgotten names like, Studebaker and Hudson, along with names readily known today like Ford and General Motors (Chevrolet), Dewitt Carl used the American Dream, hard work, long hours and perseverance to begin what is still known today as New Salem Garage, Inc D/B/A New Salem Saab. The Saab franchise was purchased in 1961 and as of March 23rd of that year, New Salem Garage, Inc. became the sixty-ninth Saab dealer in the country and began its journey into the future. Fostered and cared for by Dewittbs son, Fred Carl, who grew the company based on customer service and a hands-on approach until his untimely death in 1994. Currently, Darryl Carl owns and operates the dealership on the same principles that his dad and grandfather instilled into him, honest, hardworking and fairly priced products and services using the same hands-on approach.

A celebration is planned for April of 2007 when the Carl Familybs New Salem Saab kicks off their Grand re-opening sales extravaganza in the new centralized location at 2041 Central Ave. Super savings on all new and pre-owned Saabs along with big service and parts specials are planned. The family will be running company birthday specials of various consumer savings all year long.
