NATION'S OLDEST SAAB DEALER BECOMES FIRST AUTO DEALERSHIP IN U.S. TO
ACHIEVE ISO 9000 QUALITY REGISTRATION
NORCROSS, Ga. - Charles River Saab In Watertown, Mass., has become the
nation's first automobile dealership to become registered to the ISO 9000
quality standard. Representatives of National Quality Assurance, USA Inc.
awarded owner Felix Bosshard the ISO certificate at the dealership's recent
40th anniversary celebration. ISO (International Standardization
Organization) is an internationally recognized system of standards,
processes and continual assessments intended to ensure quality and
continuous improvement at a company.
National Quality Assurance, USA Inc. is the company that certified Charles
River Saab for ISO 9002, the standard typically used for a service
organization. The dealership will undergo semi-annual audits to ensure
continued compliance with the requirements of the ISO standards.
"It took a commitment from every employee to achieve this level of
quality," Bosshard explained. "We have worked for more than a year to
establish processes and streamline procedures in each department at our
dealership - sales, service and parts. The ISO registration process
targeted weaknesses and proved to be an invaluable tool for increasing
quality and overall efficiency."
Bosshard has been with the dealership since its founding in 1957 - the
first full year of Saab sales in the United States. Bosshard became a
partner of the dealership in 1958, and took full ownership in 1980. Today,
Charles River Saab is one of two oldest Saab dealerships in the nation,
tied with Lighthouse Motors in Brewster, NY.
Coincidentally, Charles River Saab earned its ISO 9002 certification only
two months after the Swedish parent company, Saab Automobile AB, achieved
its own certificate of ISO 9001 (manufacturing) quality standards.
