Dennis, I just bought an 87 9000s at the end of December myself. It is a five speed that had 145,890 miles on it. Fortunately, mine did not have the problem. You are right. The numbers and the bar are your info center. Once you replace the light you will be able to see them clearly. You should see an info button on your dash with an R next to it. By the pushing the info button you will show either mpgs or the voltage coming off your alternator. Mine did not have an owners manual either, but a friend let me look through his manual for his 91 9000 turbo. I've checked, and it costs $25 to order a replacement manual through a Saab dealer.
