I wrote a wordy message earlier and then lost it so it may also show up. My Robert Bentley manual for 16 valve Saabs from '85 to '93 says there is 10-pin test connector under the rear seat. Apparently the same fault code procedure applies to '88 - '90 non-turbo engines as they are LH 2.4 engines. (The Robert Bentley manual is sub-titled "Official Service Manual" for '85 - '93 900 16 valve and is sold in Saab parts dept) Hope this helps. Will look up other stuff on this if you can't find a shop manual or a Bentley.
