My 87 9000S had a similar problem when I bought it this past December. A Saab tech friend of mine checked my vaccum lines, cleaned the throttle plate assembly, reset the basic idle and throttle position switch. My idle problems disappeared. Mine had 145,890 miles on it, when I bought it. I now have 153,700. Last weekend I drove to New York, Pennsylvania and back home to Maryland, 575 miles. Despite traffic congestion, using the A/C part of the trip and city driving, I still averaged 31.64 mpg overall. The last 307 miles of the trip I averaged 34.61 mpg. Check your vaccum lines and clean your throttle plate. Good Luck. Ken Washington 87 9000S Upper Marlboro, MD
