I haven't checked for a long time - my solenoids are all doing fine :) - but a friend of mine just had his go bad... I'm guessing yours was cheaper because the new 9-3 and 9-5 use an APC solenoid which is *slightly* different than the old ones, which would also explain the different wiring on it...
