Horsepower = Torque * RPM / 5252 This mean that that two engine can make the same torque, but if the 2nd one has a higher redline, it will make more HP. The fact is that for spirited driving, high RPM is the place to be to take advantage of shorter gearing. HP is used to measure the ability of the engine to make torque at HIGH RPMs. For example, an engine with 150hp and 225 lbs of torque is not for spirited driving, it is more to lay rubber on the asphalt or tow a trailer (because it makes it's torque at lower RPM). An engine with 200hp and 150lbs of torque may not be as powerful as the other one, but will be faster...
