The metal "tip" is just a heatshield. Only a couple years of the 16v engine used them. The other injector also has a heatshield (the "ceramic" part) but it's less pronounced. The metal shielded ones are not as good in terms of performance due to their restricted outlet, but it's not something you'd notice. Furthermore, chances are you *could* mix the two types of injectors and not notice any difference, but as a general rule it's not a good idea to mix injector types. -Justin
