Any advice gratefully received. > The tappets are quite expensive, about 400$. I've changed tappets for my 900 i16 -89 and it was pretty straight forward job to do. I had a Haynes workshop manual from which I had torque wrench settings etc. Most difficult was opening the chain tensioner (very tight) and keeping the chain not dropping inside the engine. In my occasion the clatter was only on cold engine and it was not the tappets. The sound was as bad with new tappets. Luckily the clatter went off a few months later. I guess the tensioner went one step further. The sound in my case was the chain clattering the valve cover. Seppo mail address semenopsambaud.fi
