Personally, I think there's something to be said for owning a car which requires just a little more attention. Lexus makes a nice car, no doubt, but the car is so completely without soul that the owners seem to lose interest after the first year. They don't HAVE to be in touch with the car's day-to-day care and feeding, and as such, never really develop a "relationship" with the car. It becomes just another nice appliance, like a super-quiet dishwasher - you appreciate how nice it is for a short time, then forget about it. As for Saab, reliability has definitely improved over the last 4 model years, and the 9-5 represents a quantum shift in quality from the 9000 it replaces. Saab has been very careful in introducing the 9-5 to the US, as evidenced by it's refusal to ship the V-6 turbo here until they got it absolutely right. This move probably cost them dearly in lost sales for the near term, but they won't have to deal with the PR nightmare they had on their hands with the '94 900. Your Mileage May Vary.
