the the 900 wasnt changed to the name 9-3 until 1999. i park next to a 1997 900 everday in my 1999 9-3, and the body is exactly the same. but, the 9-3 has many improvements, the structure is much stiffer and safer than ever. i know many people who have had both 9-3's and 900's (first and second generation) and they say the 9-3 is faster, better handling and so on.
