Please don't take this personally, but what the hell could they have charged you US$1K for on a head gasket change? I haven't had to have this done on a SAAB yet (and probably never will as I'd do it myself), but there is no way this should have been more than US$300 MAX! My daughter blew the head gasket on her Prelude in Massachusetts last year and, as she was 500 miles from home, I told her to ask around on campus and see if anyone knew a good local mechanic. She got a name and he towed the car in, changed the head gasket (twin cam Honda) and tuned it up. Total bill US$245.00! I can't help but feel you were hosed. Regards, James the Elder
