<Snip> A rebuilt engine probably will run "hot" at first if it's had all new parts but I would be very suspicious if it's overheating. I don't know what type of engine you have but I would check the following was done properly as these can alone or in combination cause an engine to run hot 1) Ignition timing set wrong 2) THe cooling system has not been filled properly, have to bleed the thermostat housing. 3) The mechanical valve timing is off, maybe just one link. 4) Insuffucient oil. Because the more modern Saab engine have antiknock sensors etc a car can be badly out on the above and still run ok. Why does it take 3 weeks plus to get your car back? I have stripped, de- coked and replace a head in a weekend, admittedly I had bought the head gasket kit ahead of time and did not have to have the head skimmed flat.
